Nasal Irrigation: Spring Cleaning for Your Nose

Good morning and welcome back from the long Memorial Weekend! This post is something I have been recommending to patients since I started at Hilltop Wellness & Chiropractic, but I have heard it called different names. The true name is 'nasal irrigation,' but I have heard people call it 'neti pot' (which is actually the name of the tool used to perform nasal irrigation).

The idea is simple - flush all the junk from the sinuses using a solution that is the same pH as the mucus membranes in the sinus cavity. There are many variations on the recipe one can use, although I use: 1 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon non-iodized salt, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. If you do a google search of neti pot, there's no doubt you'll find an instructional video.

So feel free to read through Dr. Mercola's article Nasal Irrigation: Spring Cleaning for Your Nose, and enjoy the spring!

Dr. Scott
